Major Scenic Point:

(1) Sabah Foundation Building (Yayasan Sabah)

 

One of the the few hanging structure in the world, the Sabah Foundation Building is a magnificent glass-shrouded tower of 72 sides rising 30 storeys into the sky, dominating the landscape. This proud, imposing building is a symbol of Sabah's dynamic, innovative spirit.

 

(2) City Mosque

 

City Mosque is an example of contemporary Islamic architecture. It built in 1997on an area of 2.47 acres at Likas Bay. The prayer floor can accommodate from 9,720 to 12,000 people at one time and houses 3 madrasahs.

 

(3) Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple

 

From here, you can catch a breathtaking view of Sandakan Bay. The extravagantly ornate temple is a blaze of red and gold, with writhing dragons, gold-gilded Buddhas, hundreds of gleaming lamps and the fragrance of burning incense. It is said that the temple protects and brings good-health and wealth to Sandakan and its people.

 

(4) Sabah State Museum

 

Built in 1985, the Museum complex is sited where then British North Borneo Governor's Istana was once located. The Museum consists of the Main Building, Science and Education Centre, Heritage Village, Sabah Art Gallery and Museum of Islamic Civilization.

Inside are various Galleries housing Natural History, Ceramics, Ethnography and Archaeology exhibits, among others.

Ceramics, traditional weapons and costumes reflect the diversity of the State's culture and traces Sabah's early trade links with the neighbouring countries of Southeast Asia and China. The museum also houses musical instruments, tools and ritual paraphernalia.

 

(5) Signal Hill Observatory (Bukit Bendera)

 

For a view of Kota Kinabalu city and harbour, head for the observation point on Signal Hill.
